Veterinary Public Health Institute

Veterinary Public Health (VPH), a relatively new discipline within veterinary medicine, in recent years substantially gained in importance in the context of the detection, control and prevention of animal diseases and animal welfare-related events. Diseases transmitted directly or through products of animal origin (food) to humans (zoonoses) are an additional area of VPH relevance - with almost 70 % of all newly emerging human diseases originating from animals. Within the VPH Institute selected topics will be addressed within own research projects, research support (consulting) and teaching.

Since 2011, the division of Animal Welfare is a separate part of the VPHI.

Continuing education in One Health for professionals: what competencies are needed?

What do professionals concretely need as competencies to be able to deploy the One Health strategy in their activities and work in a more integrated and intersectoral manner to prevent, manage and solve health issues at the human-animal-environment interface? This is what we are working on to develop a continuing education programme tailored to the needs of the field.
