Paratuberculosis in Swiss dairy cattle: disease impact, economic consequences and feasible control options

Duration: 2022 - 2025

Kontaktperson: Silja Griss

Paratuberculosis is an important disease of dairy cattle, which has major implications on animal health and the economics of cattle production. In addition, the mycobacterium has a possible zoonotic potential.
In this project we want to model the economic impact of the disease on the Swiss dairy industry, as well as possible control measures. Furthermore, we will use stakeholders' engagement to assess the feasibility and acceptance of different control measures for farmers. Information from this process will be included in the economic analysis.
This project is conducted in collaboration with the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. Since both countries have strong dairy cattle industries with small dairy herds and complex contact patterns, this collaborative project can make use of the expertise of research teams in both countries.
